The Whales are here!

May 17, 2009

It’s looking to be a great Whale Watching season for Albany and the South Coast this year.Already several humpbacks  been spotted in Albany’s King George Sound before  the official start to the whale watching season in June

Peter Collins, from the Department of Environment and Conservation, expects hundreds of whales to pass the south coast during their annual migration to northern waters.

“We’re still yet to see the southern rights come in – they’ll come in probably another couple of weeks, basically any time now,” he said.

“Overall both species have recorded quite reasonable increases in populations for a number of years now and it’s something we’ll continue to monitor.”
